"Animal rights" terrorists

These people really irritate me. Seems like every year they get more and more bold.

Animal rights terrorists have won a battle in New York, and all it took was a few gallons of paint and a little trespassing.

On the evening of November 15th, according to a press release from the Animal Liberation Front, these thugs went to the home of Lloyd Harbor mayor Leland Hairr. They painted anti-hunting slogans across the home, gained access to the garage (the Animal Liberation Front says the garage door was open), and painted more anti-hunting slogans on both cars. Then they put a statement on the internet containing the mayor’s address and home phone number, adding, “His dog is more of a sweetheart than a watch dog, you all should know.”

What did Leland Hairr do to deserve this? He asked for, and received permission from the state of New York, to hold a deer cull in his village. The small community is overrun with deer. They’ve destroyed landscaping and vegetation throughout the town, while several have been hit by cars on Lloyd Harbor’s roads. There are too many deer in Lloyd Harbor, and Mayor Hairr wanted to thin the population by about four dozen.

It gets worse...some of these goons are advocating the murder of humans in order to protect animals:

Dr. Jerry Vlasak is a trauma surgeon in Los Angeles, California. He also serves as one of the press officers for the NAALPO. According to a recent story on “60 Minutes”, Vlasak has said, “I think for five lives, ten lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, two million, ten million nonhuman lives.” He told CBS, “I think people who torture innocent beings should be stopped. And if they won't stop when you ask them nicely, they won't stop when you demonstrate to them what they're doing is wrong, then they should be stopped using whatever means necessary.”

The author wonders if these idiots are going to start following hunters home and vandalizing their property as well (or, effectively, terrorizing hunters). I would love for some little tree- or animal-hugging sissy to try that crap on my property. In fact, I wish one of them would...I'd get to treat them the same way I'd treat any criminal intruder on my property: One chance to get face down on the ground with your hands on your head--by my count of two. If you don't comply, you get one blast of buckshot in the thigh. If you still don't comply, you get buckshot in the head. Some of you will say that is too harsh. But I say you don't mess around with people who are brazen enough to come into your castle. I'm not taking any chances with the safety of my family and property.

The end of the drought...hopefully

Wow. I haven't posted in over a month...this is partly because of school, and partly because of work. Here's a brief update on both.

On the bright side, I have As in all three classes so far (a 94 and an 88 on the two tests in Survey of Public Administration, plus a 93 on the midterm paper; an A- on the midterm paper in Public Budgeting; and a 93 on the only test so far in Public Personnel Management - although we did take a test in there last Monday, which we should get back tomorrow).

I've already registered for next semester - I'm taking PSC 561 - Administrative Regulation, PSC 664 - Problems of Public Policy, PSC 666 - Political Economy and Public Policy, MUA 162 - University Chorus, and HPL 134 - Beginning Scuba Diving. My brother and one of his friends are in the scuba class - that ought to be fun!

Work sucks. (Not really - it just takes up a lot of my time.) Soccer is done; they didn't make the postseason, which was disappointing, but at least it's one less sport to worry about. Volleyball is almost done - we're hosting the SEC tournament next weekend (Iron Bowl weekend, no less). Basketball is just getting started - the girls won their first two games (a scrimmage against West Alabama and an exhibition against Henderson State). We're undermanned (underwomanned?) and lacking in some key areas, but there is confidence in the new staff. They'll get us back where we need to be. As for the guys, we're predicted to win the West, and we're ranked #15 in the preseason poll. We host a first-round Preseason NIT game here on Tuesday against Miami-Ohio.

Last week we moved from our temporary trailer offices into our new home in Coleman Coliseum, where the renovations are almost through. It's been irritating at times because sometimes the elevators work and sometimes they don't...but at least we'll all be in good shape from taking the stairs. I will have to bring the digital camera down here soon and post some pictures of our new office...since I'm spending such a lot of time here (in fact, I'm here now).

I hope not to go so long between posts in the future...if anybody's reading this, let me know and maybe that will provide a little incentive to keep it better updated. It may not be realistic for me to expect this blog to serve its original intended purpose (which was to keep a finger on the political pulse of the state of Alabama) as long as I'm in school...but I'll do my best, especially since we've got a gubernatorial election next year that's already heating up.

I'm not going to say anything about the game yesterday. My heart is broken.
